III

Movie poster design for graphic design class.Superman III never really took off (pun!! haha) because a) Richard Pryor was in it as a sad attempt to turn it into an action/comedy, b) the poster was executed with fantastic technique but ridiculous composition, and c) did I mention Richard Pryor?
Due to synthetic Kryptonite, Superman is split into two beings representing his good side and bad side. Along the way, he pulls pranks such as blowing out the Olympic torch and straightening the Leaning Tower. (Much like Spiderman III but with fewer villains... that movie was so confusing the first time.)
So here is my version. Admittedly last-minute, but I think the concept is ok.

Shades of Silence

CD cover for part of the final project for my graphic design class.

Took about 40 minutes from concept to finish. Seriously last-minute.
Kind of a joke, since I'm not much of a musician, but hey, at least there won't be image copyright issues.
Done in Photoshop CS3.

The Cap'n seems to be actin' strange...r

2H pencil sketch. I've been spouting "I've got a jar of di-rt" for two days now.

Alien Nights Poster Design

They came. They saw. They partied.

Another assignment for graphic design class. We had to come up with taglines and design 4" x 4" promo images for a fictional film, to be turned into a montage by the teacher and displayed as a one-sheet poster.
So here is mine... fun with Adobe.

Keys

T-shirt design for my graphic design class. Considering it was really last minute, I guess it turned out all right.
Sometimes inspiration comes at unexpected times from unexpected sources.

A drawing I did from a live model at the annual Gage Art Academy Drawing Jam last Saturday. 12 hours of drawing... it was amazing.
Serious joint pain afterwards, but it was really worth it.

This is approximately a five-minute sketch. Since it was a gesture drawing session, the models only held their poses for 2 to 8 minutes.

I was absolutely fascinated by his mask and the varying values under the spotlight... anyone know where I can get one for cheap?

A mural I'm doing on the inside of my bedroom door.
Went crazy with the oil pastels one night when I was frustrated.

Cousins

Studies for characterization. I guess it looks more like them than my last attempt did.

Following the leader & Making it look good

Early concept drawings for the comic book.

Comic Sketches

Some quick sketches I did for the comic book my friends are making. The cousins, and Reporter Guy with the Fedora as requested.
Since I had no reference photos yet, none of the characters look much like the models.
And never mind that Lisa's jacket buttons on the wrong side. And that Kevin's mouth looks like it might slide off his face.

Contest Entry

This was an entry for a summer art festival poster contest. Didn't make it because of too much detail and too little color, but I still like it.

Work in progress

A charcoal drawing of Louis Armstrong.

Cinderella Program Cover Art

It's finally finished! It's the one of the posters for my high school production of Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella.
I started out with a pencil sketch, then inked it and colored it with colored pencils. One of my classmates smoothed it over digitally for me, thank you Scarlett!
It was used for the cover of the program.

Bored

Did this today in math class when I had time on my hands.
A guy in my math group. It was a quick sketch, so there are some parts out of proportion, but I didn't want to spend too much time on it. (Excuses, excuses.... )

Done after a character in a book.

This is a little more recent.

Also done after a picture in a book.

A study of human anatomy. I'll try to get a better quality picture here soon.

Spiderman

Did this quite a while ago.
...I was going to wait until I updated my scanner, but I decided to give up and use a digital camera instead.

Wednesday, October 03, 2007

I havn't been able to update lately because my scanner isn't working, but I will do it soon!
In the meantime, I've been working hard on improving my skills and technique, so hopefully the next ones you see will be much better!

Another two-person drawing.
I drew everything except his facial features.

A sculpted seal (I guess) that I made last year.
I'm not exactly sure what kind of stone we used. The stamp is carved on the bottom of the pillar.
It was selected to be exhibited at a museum in a prefecture-wide contest.

A drawing of a kid that I used to teach English to. I started on the head around a year or two ago and then abandoned it, but it's finally complete.
The face is really poorly done, but I guess the rest of it turned out OK. Done with 2B, 4B, 6B pencils and a tortillion.
Posted by Picasa
